Pakistan seamer Aamer Jamal has admitted that he never likes to bowl to wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan because he “has hit me very badly”.
He noted that he has even told Azam “not to hit straight” when he is bowling to him as he doesn’t “have time to blink” when the ball comes back at him.
Azam hasn’t enjoyed a strong start to his international career, amassing 88 runs in 14 T20Is at an average of 8.80 and a strike-rate of 133.33.
Despite this, Jamal still rates the 25-year-old very highly and knows how dangerous he can be.
“In Pakistan, I don’t want to bowl to Azam (Khan). The reason was that in a white ball, you have only two or three options. There are not many options. You can either bowl [a] yorker, slow, or [a] bouncer,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
“Whenever I bowled to Azam, he has hit me very badly. He hit me very fast. When I bowled to him in the last match, I told him not to hit straight because I couldn’t have time to blink.”
Azam was recently in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but in the only game he played, which was against the United States of America, he was dismissed for a golden duck.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi and Karachi from August 21 to September 3.
