Sarfaraz Ahmed has called on people to show support for Babar Azam as Pakistan captain, saying he should be given time to get better.
He acknowledged that Azam has made some mistakes, but backed the 29-year-old to learn and improve going forward.
Having captained Pakistan in the past, Sarfaraz knows it is difficult to get results straight away as everything needs to be in perfect harmony before the team can do well.
“In Pakistan, making a mistake is a sin. I know Babar makes mistakes but give him some time. It takes time to become a captain and build a team. We need to be patient and support Babar as he is our captain,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently led the men in green in the 2024 T20 World Cup and scored 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to defeat Canada and Ireland.
Even though they picked up two wins, the men in green failed to advance to the Super Eights.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi and Karachi from August 21 to September 3.
