Pakistan opening batsman Abid Ali said making a comeback to international cricket “is in Allah’s hands” as all he can do is continue working hard.

Abid last played for Pakistan in December 2021, shortly after which he complained of chest pain during a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match and was diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). As a result, he underwent an angioplasty.

The 36-year-old has since returned to domestic cricket and recently represented Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the President’s Trophy Grade-I first-class competition.

The Lahore-born batsman finished as the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 570 runs in seven matches, which included two centuries and two fifties, at an average of 43.84.

Having shown he is still capable of scoring big runs at the domestic level, Abid is hoping to be given an opportunity to revive his international career.

“I am just a common person, I can’t complain about anyone. Allah has blessed me with humility. I just want to live happily and I am doing that. I am enjoying my life. Coming back is in Allah’s hands. I am just doing my hard work,” he told PakPassion.

Abid was not part of Pakistan’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, where they lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.

Despite ending the group stage with a 2-2 record, the men in green were unable to advance to the Super Eights.
