Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad wants answers as to why spinner Shadab Khan was given a no-objection certificate (NOC) to play in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) when he has performed so poorly in international cricket.
Shadab has not been able to take a wicket for Pakistan since the team’s T20I series against New Zealand in April 2024.
Recently, he featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup and went wicketless in four games. In fact, he didn’t even bowl in Pakistan’s matches against India and Canada.
Considering how bad his form has been, Shehzad questioned whether the 25-year-old obtained an NOC since he has friends within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“Can you tell me why you granted Shadab [an] NOC? He delivered the worst performance as soon as he arrived, yet you immediately gave him [an] NOC. Are some of his people or friends among the decision-makers in the PCB? What is the reason behind it, and why are you withholding NOCs from others? Why are you stopping others?” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
In the T20 World Cup, Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.
Even though they triumphed in their last two group stage games, it wasn’t enough to earn them a spot in the Super Eights.
