Former Pakistan chief selector Salahuddin Mulla believes assistant coach Azhar Mahmood should be sacked as he has “failed to deliver whenever given the opportunity to serve Pakistan cricket”.

He noted that Mahmood “does not deserve” to be the national team’s assistant coach as he is “not competent for the job”.

His comments come after Pakistan’s disastrous campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were knocked out in the group stage.

“Azhar, in my opinion, does not deserve to be the team’s coach as he is not competent for the job and have failed to deliver whenever given the opportunity to serve Pakistan cricket,” Salahuddin, who is affectionately known as Sallu, told The Express Tribune as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“I remember how PSL franchise Islamabad United sacked Azhar during the PSL 8 season which is a clear indication of his inability to motivate the players or help them overcome their shortcomings.”

In the T20 World Cup, Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.

However, those wins went in vain as they were unable to make it through to the Super Eights.
