Pakistan pace bowler Hasan Ali has confirmed that he was informed he wouldn’t play in the 2024 T20 World Cup as he was in the national team prior to the tournament as a back-up for Haris Rauf.
Once Rauf fully recovered from the dislocated shoulder he suffered while playing for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), Hasan was told he would “automatically be out”.
Even though the 30-year-old from Gujranwala knew he wouldn’t be featuring in the T20 World Cup, he still expressed his disappointment as he was eager to “perform and play”.
“I don’t regret it. Obviously, I wanted to play, and I wanted to perform and play. I don’t want to play without performance, and it’s neither in my nature nor do I want to play that kind of cricket, and I never have. So I don’t regret it because the management had already told me that I was Haris Rauf’s replacement only for the Ireland and England tours. So when Haris gets fit, you will automatically be out,” he told Cricket Pakistan.
In the T20 World Cup, Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to take down Canada and Ireland.
Despite triumphing in those two games, the men in green were unable to book their spot in the Super Eights.
