Mike Hesson: “Having seven selectors is just unacceptable in my view. Every country around the world is consolidating in terms of having accountable individuals responsible for selection. To increase that to seven is outrageous”

Former New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson finds it “unacceptable” that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have seven selectors picking the national team.
He questioned how this set-up makes any sense and how there can be any consistency “with so many conflicting views”.
Additionally, he noted that the men in green need to groom young players and give them enough time to showcase their talent instead of simply picking them and axing them after one bad series.
“Having seven selectors is just unacceptable in my view. Every country around the world is consolidating in terms of having accountable individuals responsible for selection. To increase that to seven is outrageous. How can you achieve consistency in selection with so many conflicting views? How can people understand succession planning?” Hesson was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
“Condense that; get real commitment. If I plan to pick young players and invest in their long-term development, I don’t want them discarded after one series or a few games. I want support to allow them ample time to adapt to international cricket and flourish.”
The Pakistan team recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup and lost to the United States of America and India before fighting back to take down Canada and Ireland.
Despite winning those two games, they failed to make it through to the Super Eights.
