Shoaib Malik: “Who is our best player? Our best player is Babar Azam”

Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik believes limited overs captain Babar Azam is Pakistan’s “best player” right now.
Azam has been the team’s most consistent run-scorer in all three formats for the past few years and has played a number of match-winning knocks as well.
While some may see players like Mohammad Rizwan or Shaheen Shah Afridi being better than Azam, Malik firmly feels the 29-year-old is the number one cricketer in the Pakistan team.
“Who is our best player? Our best player is Babar Azam,” the 42-year-old from Sialkot was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently led Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and finished as the team’s highest run-scorer with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green began their campaign with successive losses to the United States of America and India before fighting back to take down Canada and Ireland.
Even though they ended the group stage on a high, it was not enough for them to advance to the Super Eights.
