Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has made it clear that he “will not hide behind anything” and announce what the future holds for him as limited overs captain when a decision is made.
He confirmed that discussions will take place in the near future following Pakistan’s dismal showing in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
The 29-year-old has not thought about whether he wants to stay on or resign as captain, but stressed that the decision ultimately rests in the hands of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“When I go back, we will discuss all that has happened here. And if I have to leave the captaincy, I will announce it openly. I will not hide behind anything. Whatever happens will happen in the open. But for now, I have not thought about it. It is eventually PCB’s decision,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green started off with consecutive losses to the United States of America and India before triumphing over Canada and Ireland.
