Basit Ali: “He (Babar Azam) has been consistently selecting players who are close to him, and that has ruined Pakistan’s chances”

Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali has slammed white-ball captain Babar Azam, telling him to stop picking players who are his close friends.
Basit noted that Azam’s constant selection of those close to him is ruining the team and hurting their chances of winning matches.
“In Pakistan, it is a crime to speak the truth. Ziyadti karte hai ye log (They are highly unfair). I selected the likes of Shaheen, Shadab, and Babar during the Under-19 days. Look how they have been treated and what has happened to the Pakistan team,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
“He (Babar Azam) has been consistently selecting players who are close to him, and that has ruined Pakistan’s chances.”
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Azam amassed 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
Pakistan lost their first two matches to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.
Despite winning those two games, the men in green were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.
