Former Pakistan cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman doesn’t want to see Mohammad Haris and Haseebullah Khan’s careers wasted just so that wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan can get more chances to play for the national team.

Azam has featured in 14 T20Is to date, but only managed to score 88 runs at an average of 8.80 and a strike-rate of 133.33.

He failed to have an impact in the 2024 T20 World Cup as he was dismissed for a golden duck in the only match he played, which was the opening game against the United States of America.

Since Haris and Haseebullah have shown plenty of promise, Atiq hopes the selectors give them an opportunity to prove themselves instead of sticking with Azam.

Haris has represented Pakistan in six ODIs and nine T20Is, while Haseebullah has only played one T20I to date.

“You will also waste Mohammad Haris and Haseebullah Khan just for Azam,” Atiq was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan lost their first two T20 World Cup matches against the United States of America and India before beating Canada and Ireland.

Despite recovering later on in the group stage, they fell short of advancing to the Super Eights and were thus eliminated.
