Former Pakistan batsman Imran Nazir has growing doubts about opening batsman Saim Ayub as he hasn’t been able to do anything much in his international career thus far.
Ayub has been given plenty of chances to prove his worth, but has continuously fallen short of expectations.
Overall, the 22-year-old has scored 292 runs in 22 T20Is at an average of 14.60 and a strike-rate of 123.72.
Recently, he played in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but failed to impress once again, making 23 runs in two matches at an average of 11.50 and a strike-rate of 79.31.
“For a long time, we have the same players opening the innings, Saim [Ayub] got the chance but he could not do much,” Nazir was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to register wins over Canada and Ireland.
Despite those two victories, they were unable to advance to the Super Eights and saw their campaign end in the group stage.
