Legendary West Indies power-hitter Sir Viv Richards has revealed that he challenged Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed to “prove his worth” for the Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Sarfaraz was removed as the Gladiators’ captain prior to the start of PSL 9 and replaced by South Africa batsman Rilee Rossouw.
Richards believes the move will be a positive one for Sarfaraz as he will have less pressure on his shoulders.
“I’m a big fan of Sarfaraz Ahmed. I’m sure the appointment of a new captain will take the pressure off Sarfaraz. I have asked him to prove his worth with the bat in PSL 9,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
So far, Sarfaraz hasn’t been able to do much with the bat as he has amassed 15 runs in five matches at an average of five and a strike-rate of 71.42.
