Pakistan T20I captain and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi said he is always on the hunt for wickets in the first over of a match.
The 23-year-old, who is Pakistan’s pace spearhead in all three formats, has developed a habit of striking in the first six balls, which has earned him the reputation of being one of the best new ball bowlers in the world.
While he can’t always take wickets in the first over, Afridi reiterated that he always gives it his best as he knows early strikes can put the batting team under immense pressure.
“I try to take wickets in the first over,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Afridi recently featured in Pakistan’s three-match Test series against Australia and picked up eight wickets in two games at an average of 41.62.
He then made his debut as T20I captain in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where he claimed nine wickets at an average of 19.22 and an economy rate of 8.94.
He is now captaining the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has taken three wickets in three games.
