Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has taken a subtle dig at wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, saying he has “had fun for four years.”

Amir’s shot at Rizwan comes after the latter expressed his frustration at the decision to terminate his opening partnership with Babar Azam in T20Is.

The duo consistently scored runs at the top of the order, but were regularly criticised for their low strike-rates.

In the recent five-match T20I series against New Zealand, Rizwan opened the batting with explosive batsman Saim Ayub, who only managed to make 39 runs in four games at an average of 9.75 and a strike-rate of 130.

Weighing in on the issue, Amir urged Rizwan to give Ayub more time to prove himself as he is only 21 years old and hasn’t played a lot of international cricket.

“Brother, you have had fun for four years. No one is getting hurt if youngsters fail for four games. When you try new things, you need to give them time. It’s that simple,” he was quoted as saying on X, formerly known as Twitter, by Cricket Pakistan.

Rizwan is now captaining the Multan Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), while Azam is in charge of the Peshawar Zalmi.

As for Amir, he is representing the Quetta Gladiators in PSL 9, which began on February 17.
