Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja said he is unclear about Azam Khan’s role in the T20I team, asking whether the 25-year-old is just there to hit sixes.
Azam, the son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, has been a solid performer in domestic cricket and earned a recall to the national team for the recent five-match T20I series.
However, he barely had an impact with the bat during the series as he made 22 runs in three games at an average of 7.33 and a strike-rate of 115.78.
“Similarly, there’s Azam Khan; his role is not yet defined for me and I don’t understand whether he’s just hitting sixes in the middle order or if he needs to take his batting forward while keeping the situation in mind,” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam will now represent Islamabad United in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), which starts on February 17.
