Pakistan middle order batsman Fawad Alam has urged people to be careful when criticising Babar Azam about his batting technique, saying there may be nothing wrong with it.

Fawad noted that when Azam scores runs, no one has a problem with the intricacies behind his technique.

However, once the runs dry up for the 29-year-old, everyone becomes an expert and points out certain issues with the way he bats.

“If Babar scores runs with his current technique, then he is fine. And if he doesn’t score runs, it doesn’t mean his technique is flawed. We should be careful in making judgments,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

Azam was recently in action in Pakistan’s three-match Test series against Australia and mustered 126 runs at an average of 21.

He then proceeded to score 213 runs, which included three fifties, at an average of 42.60 and a strike-rate of 142 in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

Next up for Azam will be the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he will captain the Peshawar Zalmi.

PSL 9 will be held from February 17 to March 18 in four cities – Lahore, Multan, Karachi and Rawalpindi.

Peshawar Zalmi Squad for PSL 9: Babar Azam (captain), Rovman Powell, Saim Ayub, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Asif Ali, Mohammad Haris, Aamer Jamal, Naveen-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Salman Irshad, Arif Yaqoob, Umair Afridi, Dan Mousley, Haseebullah Khan, Mohammad Zeeshan, Mehran Mumtaz, Luke Wood, Sufiyan Muqeem, Waqar Salamkheil, Arshad Iqbal, Gus Atkinson, Shamar Joseph
