Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar said spin-bowling all-rounder Imad Wasim is “too good to be dropped”.
This comes after Imad was left out of the T20 team for the tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Chief selector Mohammad Wasim said Imad has become a “limited cricketer” and needs to be more versatile going forward. Until that happens, Mohammad Nawaz will be preferred over him.
However, Akhtar pointed out that Imad deserved a place in the T20 squad as he has so much talent and can have a major impact with both the bat and ball.
“He [Imad Wasim] deserved a place in the T20 squad as he is too good to be dropped from the T20 team,” the Rawalpindi Express was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan will play three ODIs and four T20 Internationals against South Africa before heading to Zimbabwe for two Tests and three T20 Internationals.
Pakistan will depart for South Africa on March 26 and the tour will commence on April 2 and conclude on April 16. The ODI series will be played first.
The men in green will then head to Zimbabwe on April 17, but the dates for the matches have yet to be confirmed.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) noted that the national team will travel back to Lahore from Bulawayo on May 12.
