Kamran Akmal: “Misbah knows the value of performance and I’m hopeful that I’ll be picked in the future”

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal is “hopeful” that head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq will recall him into the national team due to his strong performances in domestic cricket over the past few seasons.

Akmal has repeatedly said that he deserves to be playing for Pakistan, but he has not represented his country since April 2017.

Most recently, Akmal featured for the Peshawar Zalmi in this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he scored 251 runs, which included a century, at an average of 27.88 and a strike-rate of 161.93.

“Misbah knows the value of performance and I’m hopeful that I’ll be picked in the future,” Akmal told Geo Super as quoted by The News International.

Akmal also noted that he is not worried about the fact that he will be competing with Mohammad Rizwan and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

“Having two or three wicketkeepers is not an issue. If they’re great batsmen, then this should be overlooked,” he said.

Rizwan is currently Pakistan’s go-to wicketkeeper, while former captain Sarfaraz will be his back-up during the upcoming series against England.

Sarfaraz has not played for Pakistan since he was sacked as captain in October last year. However, he is expected to make his international comeback against England.

Pakistan are scheduled to play three Tests and three T20 Internationals against England, with the first Test starting on August 5 and the T20 series beginning on August 28.
