Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz believes that Mohammad Rizwan deserved to be given an opportunity as the team’s wicketkeeper-batsman since Sarfaraz Ahmed was struggling.
But, Wahab pointed out that Sarfaraz did a lot for Pakistan during his tenure as captain.
Sarfaraz was stripped of the Test and Twenty20 captaincy, with Azhar Ali and Babar Azam replacing him in the longest and shortest formats respectively.
He was also dropped for the ongoing tour of Australia.
“Sarfaraz had kept the team going really well and he is a very good player but he wasn’t in the best of form so he was dropped,” Wahab was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “He has done a lot for Pakistan as captain but since he is not in good form, we have brought in Rizwan and we are giving him chance to perform. Whoever replaces another player in the squad will be a good enough batsman to perform for Pakistan.”
Pakistan lost the three-match Twenty20 series against Australia 2-0 and will now play two Tests, which will run from November 21 to December 3.
