Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq believes Twenty20 captain Babar Azam showed “everyone why he’s number one” during the recently concluded Twenty20 series against Australia.
Imam, who only played in one match during the series and scored 14 runs, lauded Azam for leading by example in his first series as Twenty20 captain.
Azam, who is currently the top-ranked Twenty20 batsman, was one of the few bright spots for Pakistan throughout the three-match series, which Australia won 2-0 as the first match was abandoned due to heavy rain, as he accumulated 115 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 57.50.
“Always a delight to watch Babar Azam batting and he’s showing everyone why he’s number one,” Imam was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “He has the confidence to perform everywhere and that’s a good sign for Pakistan cricket that we have a player who is dominating every international bowler.”
