Imam-ul-Haq has hinted that batsman Iftikhar Ahmed could be the finisher Pakistan have been looking for and play a crucial role in the World Twenty20 next year.
Imam’s praise for Iftikhar comes after the 29-year-old amassed 108 runs in the recently concluded three-match Twenty20 series against Australia, which included a career-best score of 62 not out, at an average of 108 and a strike-rate of 150.
Iftikhar finished unbeaten on one in the first Twenty20 Internationals, which was abandoned due to rain, before smashing a 34-ball 62 in the second game, which Australia won by seven wickets.
He followed that up with a 37-ball 45 in the third Twenty20 International, which Australia won by 10 wickets.
“Iftikhar Ahmed, it’s a great thing for Pakistan, we were looking for a finisher and the T20 World Cup is next year. I hope he performs like that and it’ll be good for Pakistan,” Imam was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
