Pakistan Twenty20 captain Babar Azam came to the defence of his team following their 2-0 loss to Australia, saying “losing one series doesn’t mean that we are not the number one ranked T20I team”.
The three-match Twenty20 series against Australia was Azam’s first as captain.
While he and Iftikhar Ahmed were the only two players who performed well, it was a much different story for the rest of the Pakistan players as they failed to live up to expectations.
“Losing one series doesn’t mean that we are not the number one ranked T20I team,” Azam was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “Regardless of our performances, we are giving it our 100 percent. We have a side of young and experienced players but unfortunately things didn’t click for us in the way we were expecting it to be.”
Pakistan will now play a two-Test series against Australia, which will run from November 21 to December 3.
