Ex-Pakistan pace bowler Aaqib Javed believes that left-arm seamer Mohammad Irfan has been wasted for the last three to four years.

Javed’s comments come after Irfan was included in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming Twenty20 series against Australia, which will be held between November 3 and 8.

Javed is delighted that Irfan is back in the national team, especially as he hasn’t played international cricket since September 2016.

“He has been a decent performer in the Twenty20 format and as such, is a good pick for this tour,” Javed was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “To be honest, I am more unhappy and sad about the fact that the previous 3 to 4 years have been wasted for Irfan when he could have been playing for Pakistan in the shorter formats of the game.

“In the PSL, I find him to be the most effective bowler and the only other bowler in that category is probably Wahab Riaz, so his selection for the tour of Australia is not a shock but is a no-brainer to me.”
