Australia spinner Nathan Lyon believes batsman Babar Azam and newly-appointed Test captain Azhar Ali will be Pakistan’s “X-factors” during the upcoming two-Test series.
Azam, who was named Twenty20 captain last week, has been Pakistan’s most consistent batsman as of late, while Azhar has a wealth of experience.
Given the threat they pose, Lyon acknowledged that getting them out early will be crucial.
“They’ve got some X-factors in there,” he told foxsports.com.au. “The likes of Babar with the bat – he’s world class.
“But the captain Azhar Ali, he’s absolutely exceptional; He had a great series last time they were out here (406 runs at 81.20).
“They’ve got world class throughout the whole squad so we’re going to have to make sure that we’re doing our best job preparing well.
“When we get the opportunity, we’ve got to challenge their defence for long periods of time as bowlers, and hopefully our batsmen can bat for long periods as well.”
Pakistan’s Test series against Australia will be held from November 21 to December 3, with the first Test being played in Brisbane and the second in Adelaide.
