Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is worried about the fact that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named Babar Azam Twenty20 captain.
Mushtaq feels the PCB are experimenting too much, and is also concerned about the impact the captaincy will have on Azam.
“PCB is doing a lot of experiments and giving the T20 captaincy to Babar Azam is another,” Mushtaq told the Khaleej Times as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “I don’t know how good he is or if he has captained at the under-19 level or domestic cricket. However, I always believe that you can experiment on a lower level like domestic cricket or Pakistan ‘A’ team. But at the highest level, you are there to win the game even if you are playing against the No. 10 team in the world.”
Azam replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed as Twenty20 captain, while Azhar Ali took over as Test skipper.
Azam’s first assignment as captain will be a three-match Twenty20 series against Australia from November 3 to 8.
