Legendary Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq believes that Sarfaraz Ahmed should have been given “one more series” as captain.

Mushtaq’s comments come after Sarfaraz was sacked as Test and Twenty20 captain, and replaced by Azhar Ali and Babar Azam in the longest and shortest formats respectively.

The 42-year-old also feels that the decision to remove Sarfaraz as captain was taken after Pakistan were whitewashed 3-0 by Sri Lanka in their Twenty20 series in Lahore, a point which was also raised by former Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat.

“They lost to Sri Lanka badly and because of that, they removed Sarfaraz,” Mushtaq told the Khaleej Times as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “If I was in Misbah’s shoes, I would have given Sarfaraz one more series.”
