Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali has insisted that he has not spoken to anyone about replacing Sarfraz Ahmed as the country’s Test captain.

Azhar’s comments come after his name popped up as one of the frontrunners to take over as Test captain.

There has also been a lot of speculation on whether Sarfraz will continue on as captain, especially after the men in green narrowly missed out on qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals.

Some reports indicate that he will be stripped of the captaincy completely, while others state that he will lead Pakistan in fewer formats.

Despite this, Azhar made it abundantly clear that there is nothing to suggest he will succeed Sarfraz as Pakistan’s captain in Test cricket.

“I haven’t spoken to any one [about the captaincy] so I won’t comment on those rumours. When I made the decision to step down in the past, that was due to the circumstances,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
