Veteran batsman Azhar Ali could replace Sarfraz Ahmed as Pakistan’s Test captain, according to sources.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Cricket Committee will hold a meeting on Friday, where Sarfraz, head coach Mickey Arthur and outgoing chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq will speak about the last three years.
According to Dawn, the committee has decided to split the captaincy, and it is believed that they are leaning towards appointing Azhar as Test captain.
Sarfraz is expected to continue on captaining the national team in limited overs cricket, and it is also likely that batsman Babar Azam will be named vice-captain.
Another decision that will reportedly be made is that of Arthur continuing on as Pakistan’s head coach.
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Arthur’s future after Pakistan failed to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.
A new chief selector will also have to be selected soon as Inzamam will be stepping down from the position at the end of the month.
