Pakistan batsman Abid Ali has made it clear that he has nothing but respect and admiration for outgoing chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Abid’s comments come after Inzamam announced that he would be stepping down as chief selector at the end of the month.

Abid was recently removed from Pakistan’s World Cup squad at the last moment in order to make space for batsman Asif Ali and left-arm seamers Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz.

In addition to Abid, left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan and all-rounder Faheem Ashraf were also dropped.

Despite this, Abid believes that Inzamam made every decision with Pakistan’s best interest at heart.

“Inzamam has done whatever he feels [is best] for Pakistan cricket,” Abid told The Nation. “He is a legendary cricketer and during his tenure as chief selector, he remained focused [on] his work and played his role in a befitting manner.”
