Legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has insisted that he was “not against Younis or his captaincy at all”.
Afridi’s comments come after former spinner Saeed Ajmal said that he was among the players that rallied against Younis’ captaincy during the 2009 Champions Trophy.
“Almost all the players were against Younis Khan. Senior players had a meeting during the 2009 Champions Trophy in South Africa, in which the juniors were forced to sit,” Ajmal has said. “Afridi himself was a part of this campaign.
“I talked to him soon [after] I heard such comments about me in his book. I told Afridi that he had written [about it] wrong and revealed [half the truth].”
In response, Afridi said that some players did have a problem with Younis’ captaincy and spoke to then Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt.
However, he reiterated that he wasn’t among these group of players dissatisfied with the way Younis was captaining the team.
“I was clear at that time. I asked the boys to directly talk to Younis but they insisted to talk to Butt. I was not against Younis or his captaincy at all,” Afridi said while talking on ARY News’ program ‘Har Lamha Purjosh’.
