Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi has called on the fans to keep supporting and showing their love for the national team when they take on Afghanistan in the World Cup on Saturday.
Pakistan must beat Afghanistan if they want to keep their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals alive.
With so much on the line for the men in green, Afridi urged the team’s supporters to show up in large numbers and back the team at Headingley.
“I want to tell the fans to support us. This is your team, this is your pride. This is your Pakistan, so support us,” Afridi was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “All the senior players guided us. It is sad if you start criticising [us] after one or two games. This should not be done. This is your team and in sport, there will be wins and losses.”
If Pakistan beat Afghanistan, they will then have to take down Bangladesh at Lord’s on July 5 in order to have any chance of reaching the last four.
However, even if they defeat Afghanistan and Bangladesh, it might not be enough as they will have to rely on the results of other matches.
