Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has urged Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to hold all those responsible for the national team’s dismal World Cup campaign accountable.
Pakistan have been struggling in the tournament as they have won just one of their first five games.
With a total of three points, which came from a win over England and a washout against Sri Lanka, the men in green’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals are slim at best.
As a result of this, Akmal feels that Imran, who captained Pakistan to World Cup glory in 1992, should take action against those who have “inflicted huge damage on Pakistan cricket”.
“I request Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also the PCB patron, to start ruthless accountability [proceedings] and all those who inflicted huge damage on Pakistan cricket must face the music,” Akmal told The Nation. “We are blessed with so many natural cricketers who, if selected on merit, can strengthen Pakistan’s batting and bowling, and can take the team to a much higher level.”
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against South Africa at Lord’s on Sunday.
