Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz has vowed to prove head coach Mickey Arthur wrong about his comments that he can’t win games.

Last year, Arthur said Wahab was not considered for Pakistan’s tour of England since “he has not won us a game in two years”.

Arthur also criticised Wahab for his work ethic, saying “his work ethic around training is something needs to be looked at”.

With Wahab having been included in Pakistan’s finalised World Cup squad, he is determined to show Arthur what he can do at the tournament.

“I will try to prove in this World Cup that what was said is not true and I can win matches,” he was quoted as saying by Geo.tv. “As a coach, it is his duty to get results and select players who can win matches. I want to be on that list and have gotten an opportunity after two years.”

Pakistan will play two World Cup warm-up games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Bristol and Cardiff on May 24 and 26 respectively.

They will then begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
