Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has admitted that leaving left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir out of the World Cup squad “was a difficult decision”.

Amir was not included in the World Cup side as his form in ODIs has been dismal since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in June 2017.

From then until now, he has taken five wickets in 14 matches at an average of 92.60.

However, Pakistan are allowed to make changes to their team without seeking permission from the International Cricket Council (ICC) until May 23.

In addition to this, Amir has the chance to prove his worth during the upcoming limited overs series against England, which will consist of a one-off Twenty20 International and five ODIs, and run from May 5 to 19.

“Dropping Amir from the squad was a difficult decision for us because he is a senior player and can come up with a match-winning performance on [any] given day,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “But, he has the opportunity to come back into reckoning by putting up a good show in the series against England.”

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
