Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Hasnain has revealed that he was inspired after meeting former Australia captain Steve Waugh.
Hasnain, who is capable of bowling at speeds around 150km/h, was picked ahead of left-arm seamers Mohammad Amir and Usman Khan Shinwari when Pakistan announced their World Cup team last month.
Hasnain made his international debut in the recent five-match ODI series against Australia, where he took two wickets in three games at an average of 78.
He was called up to the national team for his performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he claimed 12 wickets in seven games for the Quetta Gladiators at an average of 17.58.
“I didn´t know much about Steve Waugh when we met,” he told AFP as quoted by The News International. “But later I got to know that he was a World Cup winner, a great batsman and a shrewd captain.
“His words were inspiring and I want to prove him right. I know the England series is a big chance for me and then the World Cup. I will do my best to make a name for myself. I will, definitely.”
Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
