Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has revealed that all-rounders Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik are “the backbone of our team”.
Both Hafeez and Malik have been included in Pakistan’s World Cup squad.
Hafeez has recovered from a second operation he underwent on his thumb, while questions have been raised about Malik’s form going into the tournament.
However, Sarfraz noted that both of them will play a key role as they are highly experienced and have previously represented Pakistan in a World Cup.
“Hafeez bhai and Shoaib bhai are our key players, we will try to get the most benefit out of their seniority,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “They are the backbone of our team and I am hopeful that they will both play and perform.”
Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
