Legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram has criticised the national players for eating biryani, a popular subcontinent delicacy, ahead of the World Cup.

Akram is concerned that the Pakistan players are not paying close attention to their diet with the World Cup right around the corner as many members of the national team are often seen attending lavish parties, where they indulge in all kinds of cuisine.

Akram’s comments come after Pakistan batting coach Grant Flower confirmed that a number of players failed a yo-yo test during the recent ODI series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.

“[Our] players are still being served biryani, you cannot compete against champions by feeding them biryani,” Akram was quoted as saying by Dawn.

Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
