Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Irfan has defended the national selectors’ decision to rest a number of high-profile players for the recent ODI series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.
Captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali were all rested for the series, which Pakistan lost 5-0.
While the selectors came under fire for resting the players just two months ahead of the World Cup, Irfan feels the move was a positive one.
“[The] selectors did a good job by trying a new combination of youngsters,” he told cricketpakistan.com.pk. “Abid Ali got a chance to perform and proved that if you play domestic cricket, your confidence and game improves.”
