Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has revealed that batsman Asif Ali could fill the role of the finisher by batting at number six.

Arthur admitted that he is a big fan of the 27-year-old, who played in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In the 12 games he played for Islamabad United, Asif scored 281 runs, which included two half-centuries, at an average of 35.12 and a strike-rate of 182.46.

“I love Asif Ali, I think he’s a phenomenal cricketer,” Arthur was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “But by his own admission he had a poor Asia Cup. The same guys who are talking about him at six now crucified him at the Asia Cup.

“He’s got a way to go in terms of building an innings, [especially] if he’s to walk in [between] overs 20-28. We know at the back end he’s unbelievably dangerous.

“In ODIs, you need to build an innings and those are things he’ll learn, we’ll keep developing him as he has the potential to be that finisher for us at number six.”
