Ehsan Mani: “[The] team management came up with logical points in relation with resting players for the series”
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani has defended the national selectors and team management over the decision to rest a number of high-profile players for the recently concluded ODI series against Australia.
Mani’s comments come after Pakistan were whitewashed 5-0 in the series, which took place in the United Arab Emirates.
Many former players voiced their disapproval towards the decision to rest captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali, especially since the World Cup is just two months away.
“[The] team management came up with logical points in relation with resting players for the series, ahead of the World Cup,” Mani told cricketpakistan.com.pk. “We did not want to take the risk of a potential injury to our players. We need fully fit and ready players for the mega event.
“Pacer Hasan Ali himself came and asked to be rested for the series as his speed was going down due to excessive cricket.”
