Legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi believes that that the national selectors are calling up young talents to the Pakistan team too quickly.
Instead of letting them develop their skills by playing more domestic cricket and for the Pakistan A team, Afridi feels that the selectors are allowing them to bypass much of that and go straight to into the national team.
Afridi pointed out that players have to earn the opportunity to play for Pakistan through a string of strong performances over a period of time, but he reckons that this hasn’t been the case with many of the players that have been drafted into the Pakistan team as of late.
“We are giving them a chance for the Pakistan team too quickly,” the 39-year-old, who is playing for the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was quoted as saying by The News International. “Take some time, keep an eye on them. Make them play some tours of the A team, take them to the academies. Don’t make things easy, let them work hard to wear Pakistan’s cap.”
