Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for constantly overlooking left-arm seamer Junaid Khan.
Junaid was not selected for the ongoing limited overs series against South Africa since he was deemed to be unfit.
However, Latif questioned why Junaid has been cleared to feature in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) if he is not healthy enough to play international cricket.
Junaid is currently representing the Khulna Titans in the BPL and has taken 11 wickets in six matches at an average of 17.72.
“[Before the South Africa tour] we were told that Junaid was unfit, but he is playing in the Bangladesh Premier League [BPL] in Bangladesh. So it seems that the team management doesn’t want Junaid in the squad,” Latif was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “I will not only blame the management but also the selection committee as well. The PCB should issue a press release providing reasons on why Junaid Khan is out of the team.”
Latif also noted that whenever Junaid has been given an opportunity, he has always performed, whether it be on home soil or overseas.
“He has always performed. If [he has] not been able to take wickets, he’s been economical. So being out of the team in this manner is unjustified,” Latif added.
