Dan Christian smashed an unbeaten 49 off just 27 balls to lead the Melbourne Renegades to a five-wicket win over the Adelaide Strikers.

Being put in to bat first, the Strikers lost opener Alex Carey in the third over as a terrible mix-up caused him to be run out by Renegades skipper Tom Cooper for five runs.

Captain Colin Ingram managed to score a quickfire 21 before he was caught behind off the bowling of Mohammad Nabi.

Jake Weatherald, who opened the batting with Carey, mustered 32 runs before he was caught by Nabi off the bowling of Cameron Boyce.

Matthew Short and Jonathan Wells stabilised the innings with a 104-run partnership, during which Short brought up his fifty, before Wells was clean bowled by Kane Richardson for a 30-ball 42, which included four boundaries.

Short went on to make 65, which came off 41 balls and included a boundary and five sixes, before he was caught and bowled by Richardson on the last ball of the innings.

Thanks to Short and Wells, the Strikers finished on 174/5 off their 20 overs.

Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Nabi and Boyce chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 175 to win, the Renegades got off to a quick start before losing opener Tim Ludeman, who was dismissed by Billy Stanlake for eight runs.

Cameron White and Sam Harper made up for the loss of Ludeman with a 50-run stand before Harper was given out lbw off the bowling of Rashid Khan for 28.

Rashid struck again five balls later as he trapped White lbw for 32.

Cooper fell the very next over, while Kelvin Smith only made three before he was caught behind off the bowling of Stanlake.

With the Renegades in a spot of bother at 82/5 in the 12th over, Christian and Nabi not only came to the rescue, but also led their side to victory with their unbeaten 94-run partnership.

Christian finished on a 27-ball 49, which included two boundaries and five sixes, while Nabi remained undefeated on a 30-ball 48, which included four boundaries and two sixes.

Stanlake and Rashid took two wickets apiece, while Cameron Valente claimed one.

Christian was named Man of the Match.
