D’Arcy Short hammered a quickfire 34 and took two wickets as the Hobart Hurricanes cruised past the Melbourne Stars by six wickets.

Choosing to bowl first, the Hurricanes got an early breakthrough as Stars opener Travis Dean was caught and bowled by Jofra Archer for 11.

Ben Dunk only made 10 runs before he was caught by James Faulkner at midwicket off the bowling of Archer.

Nick Larkin and Stars captain Glenn Maxwell stabilised the innings with an 87-run partnership before Larkin was clean bowled by Short for a 33-ball 45, which included five boundaries.

Maxwell went on to score a 31-ball 47, which included five sixes, before he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Archer.

Dwayne Bravo fell shortly after as he was dismissed by Short for 12 runs.

With Marcus Stoinis making an unbeaten 22, the Stars finished on 155/5 off their 20 overs.

Archer was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Short chipped in with two.

Chasing 156 to win, the Hurricanes got off to a strong start as captain Matthew Wade and Short amassed a 55-run partnership before Short was caught behind off the bowling of Scott Boland for 34.

Alex Doolan failed to have an impact with the bat as he was clean bowled by Sandeep Lamichhane for two runs.

Wade and Ben McDermott steadied things with a 52-run partnership before Wade was caught by Adam Zampa at short fine leg off the bowling of Lamichhane for 52, which came off 37 balls and included five boundaries and a six.

McDermott went on to score 28 before he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Lamichhane.

Despite losing Wade and McDermott in quick succession, the Hurricanes still ended up reaching their target with eight balls to spare.

Lamichhane was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Boland claimed one.

Short was named Man of the Match.
