Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has admitted that legendary India spinner Anil Kumble and Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi are his cricketing idols.
Rashid added that he grew up watching videos of Kumble and Afridi, and still does from time to time to this day.
“I have watched a lot of Afridi and Anil Kumble because both of them were quick in the air and were accurate. I still watch some of their videos,” he told ESPNcricinfo as quoted by CricTracker. “I was a huge fan of Afridi growing up. He was from the tribal area that stretches across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
“I watched him, studied him. I loved his enthusiasm, the way he attacked the batsman. I knew that had to be my attitude if I wanted to be successful.”
The 19-year-old is currently representing the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has taken 13 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 22.
