Former India pace bowler Ashish Nehra has been appointed as the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bowling coach for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Ex-South Africa batsman and head coach Gary Kirsten has also joined the franchise and will take up the post of batting coach.
Nehra retired from all forms of cricket in November and many Indian seamers, including Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, hold him in high regard as a mentor.
However, this will be the first time Nehra has coached in any capacity.
Kirsten, on the other hand, coached India prior to his stint with the Proteas and led them to World Cup glory in 2011. He has also coached the Delhi Daredevils and is currently in charge of the Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia.
“I am excited to welcome Gary and Ashish to the coaching team for Royal Challengers Bangalore,” RCB head coach Daniel Vettori said. “Both of them bring a wealth of experience in cricket, which the team can learn from immensely. We look forward to an amazing season.”

Much needed inclusion this. RCB really needed a good bowling mentor and Nehra having played the IPL for a long time is a near perfect choice.
Agree fully. Nehra is known to be a good mentor and has knowledge of the IPL. Kirsten has coached an IPL franchise and a number of international teams. Plus he was a great batsman too. Now all RCB have to do is get the right stock of players during the auction.
