New Zealand opener Martin Guptill will miss the third ODI against Australia in Hamilton on Sunday as he has failed to sufficiently recover from a hamstring strain.

Guptill sustained the injury while fielding in the first ODI on Monday and missed the second ODI in Napier on Thursday, which was abandoned due to a damp outfield.

With the 30-year-old out, Northern Districts batsman Dean Brownlie will take his place in the squad for the third and final ODI.

Brownlie has not played international cricket since he featured in an ODI against Pakistan on December 19, 2014.

New Zealand hold a 1-0 lead going into the third ODI as they triumphed by six runs in a thrilling showdown in Auckland.
