The 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction will be held on February 20 in Bangalore.
The auction was initially scheduled to take place on February 4, but it was postponed following the Supreme Court of India’s decision to dismiss Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke last month.
Each franchise will be allowed to have 27 players on their roster, but only nine of them can be from overseas.
Furthermore, the teams will also have a purse cap of INR 66 crore (approximately $10 million).
“So far, more than 750 players have registered for the Player Auction 2017,” the BCCI said in a release. “The deadline for player registration ends today, February 3, 2017.”
All current player contracts will expire at the end of this year’s IPL, which begins on April 5, meaning that the players the franchises opt not to retain will go into the 2018 player auction.
