New Zealand opener Martin Guptill has been ruled out of the second ODI against Australia in Napier on Thursday due to a minor hamstring strain.
Guptill scored 61 runs in the match, which New Zealand won by six runs, but injured himself while fielding.
As of now, it remains unclear whether he will be fit enough to feature in the third and final ODI in Hamilton on Sunday.
“Martin felt tightness in his left hamstring while fielding yesterday and after being monitored over the last 24 hours it’s become apparent he won’t quite be ready for Napier,” New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson said. “He’ll remain with the team and we’ll continue to monitor him ahead of the third ODI in Hamilton.”
With Guptill out, New Zealand have called up Northern Districts batsman Dean Brownlie as a potential replacement. Brownlie, 32, has not played any international cricket since December 2014.
